I know there have been several discussions on how the Illinois MABAS system functions and the ALARM levels. MABAS stands for Mutual Aid Box Alarm System. It has been around for many years, and use pre-determined cards for responses to many different types of incidents. It is a mutual aid system used when any member agency comes to a time where they run out of resources, they use pre-determined agencies to respond for staging, change of quarters and on scene assistance. All of Illinois' 102 counties have at least 1 agency involved in MABAS. Along with mutual aid, there are several hundred MABAS pieces of equipment located around the state, deployable anywhere in the state. Ranging from ATV's, and hazmat trucks, and trailers, to Mass Casualty trailers, to Specialty Rescue Trucks, and Light trailers. The Illinois system is like none other. The Illinois system is currently adopted by parts of IA, WI, MI, and IN.
